My name came out of the wind.
Someone left the door open in my dad’s mind and my name flew in along with leaves and litter.
The wind it came in with might have once brought a breath of fresh air but now all that's left is a mess to clean up.
My name is not like the names of my brothers.
It was not passed on from generations, it is not used in the bible, it is instead the name of millions of others.
It is the aftertaste of grape medicine that never even tasted like a grape in the first place.
It is the feeling of the fur of the puppy your parents try to replace with your deceased dog
It is the burdensome weight that makes your stomach drop
It is the confused mexican seed planted in the soft, tempting soil of the united states,
Watered with regret and despair
Will it ever grow to fill the seemingly big hole that it was graciously given?
My name is everything that is me,
My name is nothing to the world,
My name is ashley

ReplyDeleteI like they way you compared your name with different things like the aftertaste of grape medicine, and the puppy. It helped create an image
